Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE)

Island Press co-founded the Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE) to enrich, strengthen, and accelerate thinking on climate change adaptation. Guided by a diverse group of stakeholders and advisors, CAKE delivers information to a growing community of practitioners.

CAKE makes it easy for decision-makers on the ground and at the policy level to share adaptation resources, data, tools, best practices, connections, and lessons learned. It includes a robust geo-referenced database, along with the following interlinking features:

Interview with Don Falk

Don Falk, associate professor at the School of Natural Resources, University of Arizona, and Island Press author, speaks about the current role of restoration ecology in the face of climate change and altered world ecosystems. He emphasizes how restoration ecologists are already equipped with the skill set to address climate change as a direct result of working with stressed environments, and also explains a current paradigm shift that replaces restoration ecology with resilience ecology.

Preparing for Climate Change in the Pacific Northwest   In this expert panel on how the Pacific Northwest will be impacted by climate change and how it should be managed, Island Press authors Dr. Anthony Barnosky, and Dr. Jennifer Hoffman discuss climate change adaptation projects and efforts in the area. Other topics addressed at the event focus on the uncertainty of climate change, triage, prioritization, and win-win adaptation strategies.
